SURFACING, 2025
SURFACING is an experimental art project of 40 pieces formed across three arcs, crafted from within a vast, hand-built 3D worldscape of real flowers, AI-generated elements, and gaussian splats. Aesthetically, it remixes Millais’ Ophelia with 1990s hyper-floral, hyper-saturated color palettes, while thematically it imagines a day in the life of her drifting, disembodied self amid the shifting, refractive floods of the present.
SURFACING: A-SIDE is 15 video loops tracing the arc of our daily digital rituals from morning awakening, through afternoon and evening, to night and back to dawn. Each loop becomes a small act of reflection, repetition, or surrender. Do we ever rest? Or awaken?
SURFACING: B-SIDE mirrors and extends those surfaces with 15 video loops that cut, fragment, and reassemble gestures from glitch, pixel, and generative art. Each abstraction hovers between defense and discovery, between the safety of repetition and the risk of invention as the familiar becomes unstable, fractured, shimmering, and alive with glitches.
SURFACING: AFTERGLOW forms the final arc and is a series of 10 curated gaussian splats from the project’s vast worldspace.
Taken together, through increasing abstraction and layering techniques,
SURFACING forms a three-sided meditation on how being and ideas fragment and dissolve in new worlds we are only starting to imagine.
